United urged to keep on grafting

Winger Robert Snodgrass will be cracking the whip as Leeds attempt to stretch their unbeaten home league run to 20 matches against Leyton Orient tomorrow night.

Snodgrass scored his first goal since September in the 3-0 win at Brighton on Saturday as United stretched their lead at the top of League One to six points.

He scored both goals in a 2-2 draw at Orient in April but the Scot refuses to rest on his laurels.

“You get nowhere without hard work and if we are going to keep challenging for the title we need to keep grafting as a group because there are a lot of important matches ahead,” he said.

“The performance at Brighton was up there with our best of the season and we want to keep up the momentum.

“It was pleasing to score a goal but I think there is a lot more to come from me. I am just happy to be playing my part for the team.”

Jonny Howson, who wore the captain’s arm band at Brighton in the absence of Richard Naylor, hobbled off the pitch with cramp but is expected to be fit to face Orient.

Striker Tresor Kandol is available after completing a three-match ban and is pushing Sam Vokes for a place alongside leading scorer Jermaine Beckford.

But Naylor and Bradley Johnson, who both missed the Brighton game through injury, are again expected to be ruled out.

Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: “We have a useful lead but we know we are there to be shot at.

“We can’t afford to bother about what teams behind us are doing. We can only concentrate on trying to maintain the standards we have set ourselves.

“Football has a horrible way of kicking you where it hurts if you drop your guard. Teams coming to Elland Road try to make life difficult for us and Orient will be no exception.

“But if we play anything like we have done from the start of the season, this is a good opportunity to register another win.”
