Holland hasn't eaten all the pies

Guiseley manager Steve Kittrick was delighted to land former Huddersfield Town midfielder Chris Holland this week and still hopes to unveil another quality signing but has lost two from last season.

Club captain Ryan Crossley, who missed the first half of last season through injury, has gone to FC Halifax Town.

Bustling midfielder Chris Bolder has also left and will be at UniBond Premier Division rivals North Ferriby United next term.

Kittrick said: “I had never met Chris Holland before he turned up for training but he came very highly recommended.

"After watching him going through the sessions, I have to say I’m amazed at his fitness levels and his value to the club.

“He is 33 now but he has obviously looked after himself very well - he kept up with everyone else. In pre-season you can be found out if you're not quite there but he is leading the way.

“He is a great lad as well. He came with no demands, no questions, he just says he loves to play and is looking forward to joining us.

"He lives in Blackburn and we train once a week at Wakefield so that is a 100-odd mile round trip and he hasn’t missed one minute of any session.”

Despite being pleasantly pleased by Holland’s attitude – the player’s talent was never in question after spells with Preston North End, Newcastle United and Birmingham City before his stint with the Terriers – Kittrick is disappointed to lose two of his stalwarts.

The boss added: “I can understand Ryan going to his home-town club - he is a Halifax lad, I hope the new challenge works for him.

"Chris Bolder is a schoolteacher and he has extra duties on his plate and it was becoming hard from him to get here from Hull three or four times a week after work.

“Chris was under contract but when he came to us to explain the difficulties he had with the travelling from his home, we cancelled his deal and released him straight away. Both of the lads did a fantastic job for us and we wish them well with their new clubs.”
