Hoggard has to weigh up his options

With the future of one Yorkshire stalwart now confirmed, the attention switches to that of another.

Former England bowler Matthew Hoggard revealed last month that he is considering leaving his home county after 14 seasons when his contract expires later this year.

And the 32-year-old from Baildon is still refusing to commit himself, despite being offered a new deal by the White Rose county.

“I’ve not played a game of limited-overs cricket for Yorkshire this season, which is quite disappointing on a personal level,” said Hoggard.

“It’s an interesting time and we’ll see. Obviously I’ve got to weigh up my options.”

Hoggard has been in pretty good County Championship form this year, indicated by his five first-innings wickets against Somerset at Taunton this week.

An official written approach has come in from Worcestershire and any county wanting to speak to a player can do so after 28 days of expressing their initial interest.

“I’ve got no idea about Worcester as I’ve not spoken to them,” said Hoggard, who will not be able to do so until the end of July approaches.
