All to play for at Taunton

All results are still possible heading into the final 65 overs at Taunton as Yorkshire’s hopes of sealing their first County Championship win of the season were hampered by the failure to take a wicket in the morning session.

It was somewhat of a surprise to see Yorkshire head back to the crease on the final day with an overnight lead of 441 likely to be beyond the reach of the hosts but Anthony McGrath’s decision could prove to be spot on and save a draw after Somerset piled on the runs before lunch.

The Tykes batted for less than three overs in the morning and Ajmal Shahzad launched a huge six straight down the ground to help the lead on its way to exactly 475 before McGrath called Shahzad and Jonathan Bairstow, unbeaten for a superb 66, back into the pavilion on 363 for five.

Somerset were not expected to fly out of the blocks and look to win the game but they are 123 for nought at the interval after rattling along at just under five an hour as both Marcus Trescothick and Arul Suppiah made ominous fifties.

It will take two or three scalps to force Somerset to halt their offensive and if Yorkshire can take wickets before tea there is every chance that Martyn Moxon’s side can still go on to win but if the host’s opening pair continue to frustrate the Tykes attack, a dramatic Somerset victory might still be on the cards.
