Queues of people eager to secure tickets for this year’s Ilkley Literature Festival built up as early as 7.30am today as they went on sale.
With big names in the literary world such as playwright Alan Bennett and comedienne Jo Brand topping the bill a number of die-hard festival goers made sure they got their tickets early.
By as early as noon, tickets for Alan Bennett, Jo Brand, and journalists Frank Gardner and Francis Wheen had sold out.
Tickets for the 2009 festival from October 2 to 18 are available through the box office or from venues including Grove Bookshop and the Tourist Information Centre.
A spokesman for Grove Bookshop said: “It’s been hectic. Alan Bennett, Vic Reeves, James Cracknell, Paddy Ashdown and Jo Brand are just some of the names we have sold out of tickets for.”
