This weekend you can see a great collection of vintage ambulances at the Thackray Museum in Leeds. Scare your friends with some gruesome face painting using special effects from film and TV, join in the trails around the museum, meet Florence Nightingale and make a Victorian toy. Adding colour and character will be the East Yorkshire Regiment Living History Group, using period uniforms, weapons and equipment to bring history to life. The whole event is free with usual admission charges and activities run from 10am to 4pm each day.
There’s some extra-special summer fun at RHS Garden Harlow Carr this weekend with the BBC’s One Show scientist, Dr Marty Jopson, demonstrating just what the sun does for us. There will also be donkey rides and giant outdoor games including snakes and ladder, jenga and chess. Try you hand at navigating the freshly-cut maze and plant a sunflower in a pot you have decorated.
The meeting hall in Moorlands Road, Drighlinton, plays host to a craft fair tomorrow with a range of local crafters selling handmade goods, including jewellery, cards, baby cakes and original artwork. Admission is free and the event runs from 10am to 3pm.

There’s a chance for gardeners to stock up on a wide range of plants including lots of unusual varieties at excellent prices from local and regional growers and nurseries at the Huddersfield plant sale next Saturday in New Street. The organisers’ advice is to come early to this popular event as stallholders tend to sell out early.
Go along and enjoy the fun at a summer gala at the Society for the Blind fair held in the garden of Whitfield Centre, Soothill Lane, Batley, from 10am to 3pm.
